DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – Centre head men’s basketball coach Greg Mason announced that guard Will Hager has joined the Colonels’ 2017 recruiting class on a Division II transfer.
Hager, who graduated from Mercer County High School in Harrodsburg, Ky. in 2016, originally committed to play basketball for Division II Colorado School of Mines, but redshirted for the Orediggers during the 2016-17 campaign.
Hager is one of the most decorated high school players in the 12th region and the all-time leading scorer at Mercer County with over 1,900 points. As a senior, Hager helped the Titans achieve a 33-2 overall record and the top spot in the Kentucky high school basketball rankings. He earned a pair of All-State honors in his high school career, Second Team as a senior and Honorable Mention as a junior. Hager was also a two-time First Team Academic All-State honoree.
“We are thrilled that Will has decided to join our program and attend Centre this fall,” said Mason. “Everyone who follows basketball in our area knows the impact he had at Mercer County, leading their team to a top ranking his senior season. Will fits everything we are looking for in a basketball player here at Centre in that he’s an outstanding student, a very accomplished player and most importantly an outstanding young man.”
The addition of Hager completes Centre’s eight-player recruiting class for 2017 that will look to make the Colonels one of the favorites to win the Southern Athletic Association championship.
Centre will open up the 2017-18 basketball season with an exhibition game at the University of Kentucky on Nov. 3.
