Here are details from the league:
INDIANAPOLIS – Kentucky Wesleyan junior forward Evan Milligan (Evansville, IN / Central HS / Webster University) was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Despite a shortened slate of contests over the holiday break, a handful of conference games were completed as teams prepare to enter the new calendar year in the latter half of the 2017-18 season.
KWC (8-5 overall) was able to string together its fifth win in a row with a victory against Lake Erie, handing the Storm their first league defeat in the process.
The Panthers now find themselves in a favorable spot at third in the conference standings. The program has been overcoming adversity in a year that included a head coaching change with Happy Osborne stepping down due to medical concerns and Jason Mays stepping in to lead the program.
The Panthers have also been implementing new personnel following the graduation of overseas pros and former Great Midwest standouts Ken-Jah Bosley (Israel) and Jordan Jacks (Finland).
Enter Milligan, a transfer from Division III Webster in St. Louis, Mo., who filled up the stat sheet with 25 points and nine rebounds in the 95-79 win against LEC at home in the Owensboro Sportscenter.
Milligan made nine of his 12 attempted shots and drained five three pointers to go with three steals and two blocks.
The 6-6 junior has been a staple in the starting lineup with five consecutive starts since Dec. 2, coincidentally the same time KWC began enjoying its current win streak.
He has scored in double figures six times this season while receiving an uptick in playing time as his season averages continue to climb.
Milligan has now played in all possible 13 games with six starts, including one vs. Southern Indiana. He is averaging 10.2 points and is shooting 52 percent from the field while pulling in 5.2 rebounds per game.
Milligan posted a double-double against Shorter on Nov. 24 with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
