Murray State Loses Starter Anthony Smith for Season

Murray State University reported some unfortunate news tonight as senior starter Anthony Smith will miss the rest of the season after suffering an ankle injury.

Here are details from MSU:

Murray State head men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon announced senior Anthony Smith will be sidelined for the rest of the 2018-19 season after suffering an ankle injury that will require season-ending surgery.

“This is heartbreaking news for Anthony,” McMahon said. “He is a tough competitor with a tremendous work ethic. Anthony is a team captain, a leader, and a winner. As we move forward with the season, he will continue to fill those roles for our team. I look forward to him making a full recovery in the spring as his future is incredibly bright.”

Through five games of the 2018-19 season, Smith was a starter in all five and was averaging 7.6 points per game and was leading the team with 16 offensive rebounds.

The Racers return to action Saturday at Middle Tennessee in a 7 p.m. tip at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
