Wade Shares How Golf and Wine Shaped His Post-NBA Success

Some athletes choose to retire and enjoy peace in their later years, but Dwyane Wade has taken a different path. Since he stopped playing in 2019, he seems to have become even more active.

He has taken a stake in teams like the Utah Jazz, Real Salt Lake, and the Chicago Sky, while also running a successful podcast network. Wade has tried his hand at hosting a game show, started a production firm, and led various charity projects. This fall, he is set to join Amazon as an analyst for NBA games.

The ex-Heat player has created a vast brand and appears to be moving forward with no plans to slow down. At Fanatics Fest in June, he shared insights on what has helped him build a brand that extends well beyond basketball.

‘I tell people all the time, two of the most important things I’ve done since I’ve retired is the fact that I’m in the wine industry and the fact that I’ve picked up golf, because I’ve been in situations in both places where I’m sitting with somebody that I would never have gotten an opportunity to have this much time with’, Wade said.

Wade shared that when spending time with someone over a bottle of wine or during a long golf game, the moments can feel special and unfiltered. He reflected on a time when he realised he was golfing alongside Obama.

D’Angelo Russell mentioned that Wade’s insights and vision have helped him shape his path. He noted that Wade often shares valuable advice that might be missed by some, but he makes sure to pay attention to every word.

In April, Russell made history as the first NBA All-Star to launch a signature shoe through Wade’s brand, Way of Wade, which collaborates with the Chinese company Li Ning. His podcast cohost, Logan Linkmeyer, emphasised that Russell chose to join Way of Wade because he sensed Wade’s genuine spirit and positive energy from the start.

After casually mentioning his recent trip to the Cannes Film Festival, Wade stressed an idea that has driven his success. He pointed out that how one views life affects what they will do next. He emphasised the importance of partnership over mere sponsorship. This mindset has allowed him to carve out his niche in the sneaker market, stepping away from the big names like Nike and Adidas.

It also led him to invest in smaller shares of different sports teams, where he could gain experience. Additionally, this approach has shaped his podcast, which stands out by offering genuine analysis and meaningful discussions rather than just quick opinions or gimmicks.
